Hello! My name is Laura Patricia Muñoz Guzmán

In 2016 I moved to Fullerton, California to start a new life with my husband Eduardo. When I first arrived in this country, I felt lost and without a clear goal of what I was going to do with my life in this new city. In 2017 I became pregnant with my first baby, Unfortunately, the pregnancy only reached 10 weeks of gestation, When this happened I was in Mexico visiting my family, I stayed for a period of 2 months to recover from the curettage that had been performed on me and overcome my duel. One day my sister Emerita told me about some handmade bags that the people deprived of her liberty made by hand and sold wholesale.

I was interested for the reason of helping incarcerated people so that they have an income in addition to feeling helpful with the work they do.

I returned to California with a total of 30 handmade bags and a few pairs of leather sandals.

I started selling them among my school friends, my family, and later on the Facebook marketplace. In 2018 I started selling on the weekends at a swap meet in Cerritos, California. On Saturdays and Sundays, my husband and I would get up at 5 am to go to the swap meet to sell, we would finish at 5 pm very tired but happy for the sales we had made.

In August of that same year, God gave us the joy of getting pregnant again.

My pregnancy was high risk for the first 5 months and we had to stop selling at the swap meet so all my merchandise was stored in a room in my house, I continued selling through the marketplace but it was no longer the same. One day I started reading about how to sell on Etsy which I found super difficult and confusing, I turned off my computer and just said, It's difficult! I continue as I am.

After my son was born in April 2019, we started selling again at swap meets. At that time, more huaraches were sold than bags, so I began to look for more huarache suppliers and invest in more equipment for my sales stand. In October 2019 God gave me a big surprise and I found out that I was pregnant (yes again), and I had my 5-month-old baby at that time.

For the second time I said goodbye to my sales at the swap meet but this time I already had a lot of merchandise and money invested so I went back to investigate how to sell on Etsy, this time I didn't give up.

I opened my store and in February 2020 I received my first order and from there Mexicanita Handmade officially began.

Currently, we have received more than 22,000 online sales and our products have already traveled internationally to each of the continents.

My small business, which years ago helped me overcome the loss of my first baby, is now a source of income for my family and is my greatest passion.

My children have grown up among boxes of sandals and going to the post office to deliver the packages, they know how to pronounce the word “huarache” perfectly, and they know what order is and that the products we have in the garage are to sell.

It gives me great satisfaction to be with them at home and at the same time feel proud of what I have achieved little by little, slowly or quickly, depending on how life as a wife, mother, and housewife allows me. That is the philosophy of our company.

My children and I have a little piece of Mexico in our house or maybe it's just a piece!

Which has given us great satisfaction such as buying our first home, traveling, and having a better quality of life but always loving our roots and not forgetting where we come from.

Although I am far from my land and my people, I feel that in one way or another, I am helping them, The Mexican artisans who make the products that I sell have become my friends and this satisfaction of making known what is done in Mexico with a lot of love is what motivates me every day
